The F8 Tributo’s stunning debut rocked the auto world, and was an example of Ferrari’s continued commitment to innovation and pushing the envelope. The Prancing Horse is not resting on its laurels, though, and has now released the Ferrari F8 Spider: a convertible version of the Tributo that will replace the 488 Spider in Ferrari’s lineup.
Differences Between the Ferrari F8 Tributo and F8 Spider
The most obvious difference between these two prancing horses is the F8 Spider’s retractable hardtop. The hardtop can be retracted in only 14 seconds while traveling at speeds of up to 28 mph. The hardtop also adds an additional 154 pounds of weight to the F8 Spider, which weighs in at a total of 3,086 pounds — this makes it 44 pounds lighter than the 488 Spider it replaces. Beyond the retractable hardtop, there are more similarities than anything, including the same powertrain and many similar features.
Like the F8 Tributo, the F8 Spider is a vehicle designed to let drivers push the car’s limits without exceeding their own capabilities behind the steering wheel. Ferrari Dynamic Enhancer +
is a big part of that idea — this technology helps drivers maintain control when taking corners. The vehicle also comes equipped with a Side Slip Control system, which helps you maintain control of the car if the rear end slips.
F8 Spider Design
The design of the F8 Spider is much the same as that of the F8 Tributo, save for the obvious addition of the drop top. When retracted, the hardtop is stored beneath a tonneau cover above the engine. The F8 spider also sports two prominent buttresses behind both seatbacks.
F8 Spider Powertrain
The Ferrari F8 Spider and F8 Tributo share the same incredible powertrain: a 3.9L twin-turbocharged V8 that produces 710 horsepower and 568 lb-ft of torque. Both models can accelerate from a standstill to 62 mph in only 2.9 seconds, and both offer a top speed of 211 mph.
